Dog Adoptions Page 2

Many of the dogs listed on our site are at local shelters where they run the risk of their time running out. Because we can't take every dog in need, we try to spotlight them here on our website so they get more exposure, and hopefully permanent homes. We rely on foster care for dogs while looking for permanent home for them. If you or anyone you know are interested in fostering, please contact Victoria King at 502-859-5342, info@hollys.org

Georgia (formerly Cleo) is a 3 year old chow chow who, prior to coming to us, had never worn a collar, never been inside, and was basically left to fend for herself. She is one of the most gentle dogs we've ever met, though, and she is well-worth the time it is taking to get her leash trained and used to the house. She is housetrained already and good with other dogs and cats. She still needs a lot of leash training.

Anyone interested in her will have to be able to literally pick her up to put her in a vehicle just in case she has one of her moments where she freaks out and won't walk on leash. Anyone interested in her will have to be soft-spoken and have an immense amount of patience. If you don't, it will only set her back - and she's come very far. She does like attention, but typically only asks for it when the other dogs are excited around us and she decides to trust us. If you approach her specifically to give her attention, she may back away - depending on her mood.

She also will come in the house most of the time. But she has these moments where she forgets that it's ok. At those times, you will have to be extremely patient and willing to do what it takes, whether it's snowing or raining, to get her back in the house gently. Because she canNOT be left outside for any amount of time because she never had a dog house and does not know how to use one.

She is a HOUSE-DOG ONLY now. A home visit will be required prior to adoption, as well as a follow up visit so that we can see that she is adjusting well. This dog is not for the faint of heart. She needs a home that knows and understands chows and people who have extraordinary patience.

Missy lived her whole life at a collector's house where she was never touched. It took us some time to get her out of the fence, but we did and she's in foster care. She is crate and housetrained, and we are still working on socialization. She is great with other large dogs and cats (no small dogs, though). She would never hurt anyone, she is just fearful that they will hurt her.

Missy has been with us for over 3 years now and we are just now able to walk her on leash. She is definitely "special needs" and "high maintenance" - and she is now about 9 years old.
