Georgia
(formerly Cleo)
is a 3 year old chow chow who, prior to coming to us, had never
worn a collar, never been inside, and was basically left to fend
for herself. She is one of the most gentle dogs we've ever met,
though, and she is well-worth the time it is taking to get her
leash trained and used to the house. She is housetrained already
and good with other dogs and cats. She still needs a lot of leash
training.
Anyone
interested in her will have to be able to literally pick her up
to put her in a vehicle just in case she has one of her moments
where she freaks out and won't walk on leash. Anyone interested
in her will have to be soft-spoken and have an immense amount
of patience. If you don't, it will only set her back - and she's
come very far. She does like attention, but typically only asks
for it when the other dogs are excited around us and she decides
to trust us. If you approach her specifically to give her attention,
she may back away - depending on her mood.
She
also will come in the house most of the time. But she has these
moments where she forgets that it's ok. At those times, you will
have to be extremely patient and willing to do what it takes,
whether it's snowing or raining, to get her back in the house
gently. Because she canNOT be left outside for any amount of time
because she never had a dog house and does not know how to use
one.
She
is a HOUSE-DOG ONLY now. A home visit will be required prior to
adoption, as well as a follow up visit so that we can see that
she is adjusting well. This dog is not for the faint of heart.
She needs a home that knows and understands chows and people who
have extraordinary patience.
