Lacy J.--A Feline Survival Story

This sometimes happens in rescue--you look at an animal and just aren't sure what's happened to him/her. When we first got the call on Lacy J. we thought she had been hit by a car. When we picked her up and took her to the vet, we initially thought she must have been attacked by a large animal. Then the vet took a look, and he said she probably got caught in the fan belt of a car. And, he said, he couldn't believe she was alive.

Lacy had large open wounds on both of her sides, and I won't describe it in any further detail because it was hard enough to look at and deal with at the time. Unfortunately, she had been like this for some time and no one had bothered to get her any vet care. Somehow, she made her way eventually to a business in Lexington and someone got my husband involved. Lacy J., with all her wounds, dehydrated and malnourished, actually began to purr when Rick touched her.

It took a few days for Lacy J to begin eating on her own, and she is still in the healing process with these wounds, but she has survived. More than survival, though, this tiny cat began to play and purr immediately after we got her cleaned up. She prances around here like she is a queen, and perhaps she should be crowned some sort of royalty after all she's been through!
